Battle for Majekodunmi Cup, others Begin

The final week of the 2014 Lagos International Polo Tournament begins today with five more titles up for grabs. The standard displayed in the first week, where four titles were decided, suggests that polo faithful are guaranteed great value for their time and money as the Beginners Cup, Italian Ambassador's Cup, the Governor's Cup, the Independence Cup and Majekodunmi Cup will be vied for by a host of enterprising Nigerian players and some professional players from Argentina, South Africa, Spain and England who are all listed for action. MTN and GTB are the major sponsors of the tournament, while Veuve Clicquot, Union Bank, Chapel Hill & Dunhill, UBS, Caverton Group, Dansa Foods Ltd/Dangote, Southern Sun Hotel, Smooth FM, Beat FM, Delaney and Avlon Group are co-sponsors. Four teams namely Lagos Ironclad/Fifth Chukker, Lagos Auden Delaney, Kano Titans and Kano Keffi Ponies will battle for honour in the prestigious Majekodunmi  Cup. Auden Delaney and Kano Titans will vie for the Independence Cup which falls under the preliminary of the Majekodunmi Cup while Keffi Ponies and Ironclad/Fifth Chukker will compete for the Italian Ambassador's Cup which is another group match of the Majekodunmi Cup. Eight teams are listed for the Low Cup which is divided into two groups. Good Fellows, HST, Petrosmith and Raven Rojo -all of whom are Lagos teams- will compete with  Kano AITEK, Kano  Susplan/ Titans, Ibadan A and Ibadan B. Meanwhile, Ibadan teams are optimistic of putting an end to their dismal outing in Lagos.
