DEALING WITH SPAM

For a long time now I have been receiving a couples of security questions by comments and emails from my readers in my wordpress blog http//www.naijainfozone.wordpress.com. I was not certain if to write about it or not and that kept me silence but I realize that the more silence I remain the more comment and e-mails hit my site and inbox but reluctant if to approve or reply. Originally I was intending to include this publication "DEALING WITH SPAM" in my ongoing e-Book titled "BLOGGER GUIDE" that was the main reason I kept silence for too long without responding or doing anything about it. Does that make? Ofcourse, so far money is concern and without money I cannot log on to this site to keep on posting contents/articles most especially as I'm planning to move this site from http://www.naijainfozone.wordpress.com to http://www.naijainfozone.com I will need money to do that and to maintain it to keep you that is reading this article up to date as money is the root of all success when you only think that it is the root of all evil that is when you don't know how to use the money God bless you with, AMEN, but that's my objective of building this site, mind you. Do you know one of my objective I decide to host a blog site? It is to gives you useful informations to help you build your career and live your dream life. Who knows if God will use you to support this mission by donation, well its not yet time for that or not sure if that will ever happen. Okay I get it. Yes that's the truth, but as I said earlier I was not ready to give this information out just like that though I wrote about spammers on this same site but I think that is not enough to help you keep your blog/site clean. As the question keep coming its become a burden to me and with the only two options available for me to choose only one and the options are:- * I get the e-Book done and publish it or * I give out this information "DEALING WITH SPAM" out for free. That is it. Mind me I got to choose just one and that was to get the e-Book done. That was that, mind you. I latter realize that not every body will like or be able to purchase this guide I now thought of releasing this particular part of it that you are reading. Now for my readers, followers and fans sake I decide to expose this little secrete that will help you secure your account. Did I say secrete/secure? Mind you on that if you really know what I mean. Now let's get to the subject mater "DEALING WITH SPAM" WHAT IS SPAM? An email box folder littered with spam messages Spamming is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages (spam), especially advertising, indiscriminately. While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, (phone) call spam, Internet forum spam, junk fax transmissions, social networking spam, social spam, television advertising and file sharing spam Spamming remains economically viable because advertisers have no operating costs beyond the management of their mailing lists, and it is difficult to hold senders accountable for their mass mailings. Because the barrier to entry is so low, spammers are numerous, and the volume of unsolicited mail has become very high. In the year 2011, the estimated figure for spam messages is around seven trillion. The costs, such as lost productivity and fraud, are borne by the public and by Internet service providers, which have been forced to add extra capacity to cope with the deluge. Real spam is generally email advertising for some product sent to a mailing list or newsgroup online community like blog. In addition to wasting people's time with unwanted e-mail. spam also eats up a lot of network bandwidth. Consequently, there are many organizations, as well as individuals, who have taken it upon themselves to fight spam with a variety of techniques. But because the Internet is public, there is really little that can be done to prevent spam, just as it is impossible to prevent junk mail. However, some online services have instituted policies to prevent spammers from spamming their subscribers. WHY IS IT CALL SPAM? There is some debate about the source of the term, but the generally accepted version is that it comes from the Monty Python song, "Spam spam spam spam, spam spam spam spam, lovely spam, wonderful spam". Like the song, spam is an endless repetition of worthless text. Another school of thought maintains that it comes from the computer group lab at the University of Southern California who gave it the name because it has many of the same characteristics. Many bloggers abandon their blog because of spam forgetting that whether they stick on their blog spam will come or you abandon it, that is the worst part of it so the best thing to do is to maintain it. You get me right? I mean to maintain your blog/site. As you start blogging bear in mind that spammers will locate you(guarantee) and get ready to contribute to the population of SPAM FIGHTERS to fight spam HOW TO DEAL WITH SPAM ON YOUR WORDPRESS BLOG/SITE If you really wanna fight spam you have to read this carefully and follow the instruction. One thing you must know is that I am a blogger as well as you and that I also encounter this same spam issue and I deal with it before I have this experience of writing about it that means I cannot write what I do not know right? Some wordpress users find it difficult to fight spam while some are looking for plug-in when the plug-ins are in their fingers trip. Plug-in like * AKISMET Akismet is a wordpress free built in spam fighter service, this means that all blogs hosted at wordPress.com have the Akismet spam fighting service built in. Akismet automatically runs every comment, trackback, or pingback left on your site through hundreds of tests to take out the spam and send it directly into your spam folder, so that you don’t have to bother with it at all. Basically, if a comment has nothing to do with that particular post or any related post on your site that is off topic, like this one (The application acts like a funny jokes social networking site, although I would have liked to see the ability for a little more interaction between users. This is because those feelings and emotions that your ex held close to his heart for you.You can share this Valentine day SMS with your lovedones and wish them their wellbeing and contentment in the coming year). consider it a spam and don't ever approve such spam because if you do you give them go ahead to write more and you have made your site an avenue of spam. Another thing you must know» is the commenter has a real name or user name? Is he/she comment with real e-mail? Has the url take you to a real site? Or is it clickable? Just look at this»»» This is what this person uses as user name»» lmekcyoyrbggu9p3c4se11195f470n4jtt2of4w2m1s.org/ This is email address »»lwfxemj@outlook.com This is the IP address»» 27.3.55.15 2013 This is the comment he/she made»» ulmekcyoyrblmekcyoyrb http://www.ggu9p3c4se11195f470n4jtt2of4w2m1s.org/almekcyoyrb lmekcyoyrb This is the URL http://www.ggu9p3c4se11195f470n4jtt2of4w2m1s.org/ Now you can agree with me that this is a real spam and the spammer target my site. As I said earlier as you start blogging bear in mind that you are a target to spammers and they are also your target. Spammers do not want comment on your site that's why they keep sending their spam comment, they know that you will close comment when you are tired of moderating. Now akismet will learns when you do this, and by marking spam that slips through, you can help teach it to recognize and flag those comments. If you find that you’re having a particular problem with spam or other unwanted comments, there are a number of options at your finger tip you owns that blog and you have wright to decide how to control it nobody will knock you and you can take that control under Settings→Discussion there you have the full control. On the "Discussion Setting" parnel You can request that your commenters fill out their name and email, or that they be logged into WordPress.com to comment for this to work just check the check box option. You can check “An administrator must always approve the comment” check box if you want every comment on your site to be held in moderation, or you check “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” check bo if you want to approve each commenter’s first comment: Some times spammers will target older posts, thinking that those posts are not as carefully moderated, so you can choose to close comments on your posts once they reach a certain age: Finally, scroll down to where you see "Comment Blacklist and add the terms, usernames, or IP addresses to the Comment Moderation text box (to hold any comment containing that text for moderation) or to the Comment Blacklist text box (to send it straight to spam): Be aware, however, that those lists match internal terms, so for example, if you add the word “SAY” to your blacklist, any comment containing the word “salon” or “Santa” will also be caught. Don’t be overly stringent with your commenting requirements — you want to keep spammers out, not real commenters! Personally, I’d rather have to moderate 5 to 10 spam comments than accidentally miss one real one, but that’s for every blogger to decide. Luckily, all comments marked as spam are held for a time in your Spam folder, so you can glance in there occasionally if you’re afraid something valid might get flagged. By following these simple steps, you can keep spammers from infesting your blog . . . and you won’t even need to hire an exterminator. EXTRA NOTE:- trackback and pingback is also a source of spam so becareful of site you allow to track and ping you back or don't even allow it.
